A new board of dedicated and enthusiastic members began work on defining goals and reviving the MAFAC organization. The Center became a link between artists, arts groups and the general public through exhibits and educational art opportunities. A gift shop featuring local artists was added and a newsletter kept the membership informed of regular exhibits, the developing performance series and art classes.
Volunteers worked to have the Center open to the public 7-15 hours per week. A part time coordinator was hired in 1999. The Art center moved to 3rd Street in 2006 where the larger facility welcomes many visitors daily. It continues to provide the Marshall area with access to local artistic talent, art exhibits, educational experiences, special events and a gift shop. It also facilitates information for the public in a central location and is a ticket venue for countless arts activities and performances. The Center is open 22 hours per week plus additional hours during Christmas holiday season and for summer and special events.
In addition to the activities downtown Marshall, the Schwan Community Center for the Performing Arts is the home to the MAFAC Performance Concert Series. Four to five concerts, from a variety of genres are performed each year from September through May. Top quality performers from all over the world make their way to Southwest Minnesota to share their story.
The mission of the Marshall Area Fine Arts Council is to dedicate itself to presenting art exhibits and performances, promoting local artistic talents, and provide educational experiences.
