When you hear the words Community Concerts what comes to your mind?  If you have been around the Liberal, KS area for any length of time you hopefully have a good idea that it means top notch quality entertainment.  Community Concerts of Liberal, Inc. is operated by a local board of directors, but the Allied Concert Services, provides our concert selections and they are based out of Plymouth, Minnesota.   Each year Allied Concert Services prepares a full catalog of performing groups from around the world and our local board selects the groups that we feel fit our community the best.  It is easier to travel to the city (Amarillo, Dallas, Denver, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Wichita…take your pick) from S.W. Kansas and see all forms of live entertainment that fit your personal preferences.  That ease comes with a high price when you add up fuel, hotel, parking, meals and the ticket price.  So with Community Concerts of Liberal, Inc. being right here in our own backyard it's very economical and convenient to see a variety of quality entertainment for the whole family.

Our community has been enthusiastically receiving big band, jazz, classical, country, rock and roll entertainers for as long as the highways were drivable.  Stories of these traveling groups passing through and bartering room and board for performances are prolific from the old timers here.  In the 1950's our Community Concerts of Liberal, Inc. organization was formed with the primary goal of bringing entertainment to town for all to enjoy.  We had a more than adequate venue with the Ryndam Hall and the people of Liberal always welcomed the entertainment.  A lot has changed in Liberal over the years.  Businesses have come and gone and grain and oil prices have gone up and down many times.  The consistent thing here is that we always find solace in music…especially live performances of music and dance.  The popularity of certain types of music has changed with the times and continues to do so. 

Our organization sells membership for the entire concert season.  Adult memberships are only $60 and Family memberships are $135 and Students are only $20.  There are over a dozen individuals on the current Board and they all bring different likes to the table.  We are very hands on board that meet throughout the year.  The board members go out into the community and sell memberships and solicit donations.  We set up and tear down for each concert.  We are lucky to have such incredible accommodations at the Jim Maskus Auditorium at the Liberal High School.  In the early 80's when the new high school was being built, we along with other local foundations were instrumental in raising the funds for the furnishings of the auditorium such as the sound system, shells and raisers.  We also own the eight foot concert Steinway grand piano and make it available for high school groups to use as well as community events like Pancake Day, Miss Liberal and assorted events and recitals.  Our mission continues to provide the community and surrounding areas quality family entertainment for a reasonable price.
